In The Style of Tara Yummy

The “Tara Yummy mindset” has been taking social media by storm. This comes from the rise of Tara Yummy, the influencer, YouTuber and standup comedian.

Starting on YouTube in 2019, she has amassed a following of 1.11 million on YouTube, 1.5 million on Instagram and 5.6 million on TikTok. And, the fanbase grows by the day. The fame comes from her authentic and fearless nature, from showcasing the good and bad in life to not being afraid to say what she is feeling in the moment. She also can be seen in collaborations with other influencers and channels like JC Kaylen, Kian Lawley, Jake Webber, Johnnie Guilbert, Tana Mongeau, the Dropouts podcast and more.

Being the influencer that she is, she also has an iconic style. Think of  Y2K it-girls like Paris Hilton combined with Avril Lavigne. You are picturing Tara’s style. Her style is also referred to as the rockstar’s girlfriend aesthetic or Y2K grunge. Her style has staple pieces and elements, so let’s dive into the Tara Yummy look.

Black Winged Eyeliner

Makeup can be an important part of the look. While Tara’s makeup is mostly light and natural, it is incomplete without her classic black winged eyeliner. She uses Benefit Cosmetic’s Roller Liner Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in black to draw on thick, sharp and iconic wings. She comments in her most recent makeup tutorial that she will add black eyeshadow to her bottom lash line and tight-line with a black eyeliner pencil if she is in the mood.

Silver Jewelry and Accessories

Another fashion trend is being either a gold or silver person. Tara is a silver girl. You can often see her in several silver accessories from her eyebrow piercing to belts. She often layers silver chains/necklaces with iconic Y2K symbols like the Playboy bunny or crosses. One of her staples is also thin silver hoop earrings. Silver is commonly seen in grunge, alternative and punk fashion as opposed to gold, which TaraYummy style has similar aspects to.

Baby Tees and Tanks

A classic Tara Yummy look is a graphic baby t-shirt and low-rise bottoms. These baby t-shirts are trendy now and a style that has come back from the early 2000s. The shirts often have text like “world’s best ex-girlfriend,” “locally hated” or “maneater.” Similarly, she wears fitted tank tops that are either plain or have similar text. Her “I <3 TaraYummy” merch — following the design of the classic “I <3 New York” shirts — and “Hot Girl at Work” merch also match the graphic baby t-shirt aesthetic. In past videos, she noted she even has a Y2K Bebe Sport shirt collection.

Low-rise Pants and Mini Skirts

For any Y2K icon, low-rise pants and mini skirts are staples. Tara does not stray from this. You can often see her in low-rise jeans with a studded belt like those in the early 2000s wore. She has also been seen wearing low-rise camouflage cargo pants and Juicy Couture sweats like any early 2000s it-girl. When wearing a skirt, she also wears black, denim or plaid mini skirts, again, sometimes paired with a studded belt.

Red, White and Black

People often have colors that they wear the most — colors they are drawn to. Tara is drawn to specific wardrobe colors based on her social media. While an occasional leopard print or pink makes an appearance, her color palette is mostly red, white and black at the moment – black being the most prominent color. This draws on grunge influences rather than the pastels and brighter colors seen on many Y2K icons. Her Instagram showcases these colors the most with many variations of the black, red and white clothing combinations.
